Is it free?
If you have a library card from a public library in Lancaster County, you have free access to Libby! You won't even have to pay late fines, because titles return automatically on their due dates.


Why do I have to wait for a digital item?

Many of our eBooks/audiobooks are like physical items where only one copy can be checked out at a time. If that copy has been checked out, patrons must place a hold. Our library decides how many copies to buy to meet demand while staying in budget. Unfortunately, that means you'll often have to wait for the most popular titles.

How do I know when a book I asked for is ready to borrow? 

Libby will send you a notification on your device or via email. Learn how to configure these notifications here:

Can I use multiple library cards on the same device?

Yes! Whether all your kids share a tablet or you have cards from multiple library systems, you can add multiple cards to your Libby app. Tap the Libby menu, then Cards + (under “Your Libraries”). Tap Add Another Card and follow the prompts.

Additional perks to adding cards from multiple library systems: Libby will figure out which library has the shortest wait time for the title you want. You'll also have more options for titles to borrow!


What happened to the OverDrive app?

OverDrive is the name of the company that provides your library with a digital reading platform. In 2017, OverDrive created a new app - Libby - that provids a better user experience and more features. They discontinued the old, no longer updated OverDrive app in order to focus on Libby improvements and better serve your digital reading life.


What types of content do you have?

Libby includes eBooks and eAudiobooks in a variety of genres for a variety of age groups! You'll find bestsellers, graphic novels, cookbooks, nonfiction, read-alouds (picture books with accompanying audio), and so much more. Use the filters and guides in Libby to explore.


How do I suggest a book for purchase?

If you search for a title that we don't own, you can add a "notify me" tag. You'll get a heads up if we purchase the title, and we'll get to track what titles our patrons are interested in! Learn more here:

What if all of my holds come in at once?
Don't worry! You're able to deliver holds later so you're not getting swamped with all of them at once. Delivering later means you stay at the top of the holds list while letting just the next person in line go ahead of you. Learn more here:

Can I read across multiple devices?

Want to read on your phone while waiting in line at the store and on your tablet when you get home? No problem? If you're accessing the title through Libby, you are able to sync your progress across multiple devices.
